Some mild cases of testicular epididymitis may resolve on their own, but in most cases medical intervention is required. Orchiepididymitis is an inflammatory reaction of the testicles or epididymis, usually caused by a bacterial infection or urinary tract disease.
When the symptoms are mild, such as only mild swelling and pain without symptoms such as fever, some patients may be relieved by taking adequate rest, avoiding prolonged sitting, eating a light diet, and applying local cold compresses. People with weak pathogenic virulence or strong immunity may have a self-limiting process, but changes in symptoms need to be closely observed.
If there are symptoms such as persistent pain, redness, swelling and heat on the scrotal skin, difficulty in urinating or high fever, it usually indicates a worsening of the infection, and the probability of self-healing is extremely low. Bacterial orchiepididymitis without standardized antibiotic treatment may lead to abscess formation, infertility and other complications. Specific infections such as inflammation caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis require long-term drug intervention.
It is recommended to consult a urology department promptly if discomfort in the testicular area occurs for more than 24 hours or is accompanied by systemic symptoms. Doctors may choose antibiotics such as cefixime tablets and levofloxacin tablets based on etiological examination, or use ibuprofen sustained-release capsules to relieve pain. In the acute stage, strenuous exercise should be avoided, loose underwear should be worn to reduce friction, and sexual life and alcohol consumption should be prohibited during treatment.
