Yellow-green leucorrhea generally cannot heal on its own and may be related to vaginitis, cervicitis and other diseases. It is recommended to seek medical examination in time.
Yellow-green vaginal discharge usually indicates infection or inflammation. Bacterial vaginosis is one of the common causes. It is caused by an imbalance of vaginal flora. Overproduction of anaerobic bacteria can change the color and texture of vaginal discharge, which may be accompanied by a fishy smell. Trichomonas vaginitis is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection. The leucorrhea is yellow-green foamy, accompanied by vulvar itching and burning sensation. Cervicitis may also cause abnormal color of leucorrhea, and purulent discharge may occur after the cervix is infected by pathogens. Cervicitis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or chlamydia infection, the leucorrhea may be yellow-green and accompanied by lower abdominal pain. Patients with pelvic inflammatory disease may develop yellow-green leucorrhea, accompanied by symptoms such as fever and lower abdominal pain.
In rare cases, placing certain medications or hygiene products in the vagina may cause temporary discoloration of the vaginal discharge, but this change usually disappears after the product is stopped. Long-term use of antibiotics leads to imbalance of vaginal flora, which may also cause similar symptoms. Postmenopausal women are prone to infection due to decreased estrogen levels, thinning of the vaginal mucosa and reduced resistance. When diabetic patients have poor blood sugar control, the glycogen content in the vagina increases, creating conditions for pathogenic bacteria to multiply. People with low immune function, such as AIDS patients, are more likely to develop refractory vaginal infections.
It is recommended to keep the vulva clean and dry and avoid using harsh lotions to rinse the vagina. Choose breathable cotton underwear and wash them frequently, and replace sanitary napkins promptly during menstruation. Avoid unclean sex and use condoms when necessary. If abnormal leucorrhea occurs, you should promptly seek medical attention from a gynecologist, and the cause should be determined through routine examination of leucorrhea. Select targeted treatment based on the examination results. Drugs such as metronidazole suppositories and clotrimazole vaginal tablets must be used under the guidance of a doctor. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during treatment, and your spouse needs to be examined and treated at the same time. Regular reexaminations are required to ensure curative effect and to prevent the disease from becoming chronic.
