Redness of the glans penis may be caused by factors such as excessive foreskin, fungal infection, bacterial infection, allergic reaction, local irritation, etc. It can be treated by keeping clean, taking medication, and improving living habits.
1. Foreskin is too long
Excessive foreskin may prevent the glans from being fully exposed, causing accumulation of secretions and triggering an inflammatory reaction. The main symptoms are redness, itching or odor of the glans penis. For daily care, wash the inside of the foreskin with warm water every day and turn it over to dry. Avoid using irritating lotions. If symptoms recur, circumcision may be considered.
2. Fungal infection
Candida albicans infection is a common cause, often manifested by obvious congestion of the glans, white film on the surface and severe itching. May be related to diabetes and low immunity. After diagnosis, antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole cream and miconazole nitrate powder can be used. At the same time, the partner needs to be treated to prevent cross-infection.
3. Bacterial infection
Gonococcal or non-specific bacterial infection can cause redness, swelling, heat and pain on the glans, and purulent discharge may occur. The pathogen needs to be confirmed through secretion examination. Ceftriaxone sodium can be injected for gonococcal infection, and topical mupirocin ointment can be used for common bacterial infections. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during treatment.
4. Allergic reaction
Contact dermatitis may occur from contact with condoms, detergents, or medications and manifests as well-circumscribed erythema with a burning sensation. Suspected allergens need to be stopped immediately and local cold compresses can be used to relieve symptoms. In severe cases, hydrocortisone cream can be used for a short period of time. Choose fragrance-free cleansing and care products every day.
5. Local stimulation
Excessive cleaning, prolonged friction, or urinary irritation can lead to non-specific inflammation of the glans. Shows mild redness but no abnormal discharge. It is recommended to wear loose cotton underwear to reduce friction during strenuous exercise and pat dry after urinating. Avoid using soap to clean the glans directly.
The perineum should be kept dry and breathable on a daily basis and avoid scratching the affected area. Choose pure cotton underwear and change them daily, washing them separately from other clothing. The diet should be light and eat less spicy food. If the symptoms persist for more than 3 days without relief, or if ulcers, exudation and other symptoms occur, you must promptly visit a dermatology or urology department for etiological examination. Avoid long-term use of hormone-containing ointments to mask symptoms.
