The current consensus on men's health in the clinical and public health fields has long broken through the narrow definition of "health without disease". The core is the balance state of the four dimensions of physical function, mental state, social adaptability, and reproductive health. There is no completely one-size-fits-all quantitative indicator, and it is more of a comprehensive judgment based on the individual's age and living habits.
I have been doing health education in a community health service center for almost 6 years, and I have seen too many men who have misunderstandings about health. Not long ago, a 29-year-old courier came to check his blood pressure. He was tall and thin, and his systolic blood pressure soared to 160. He waved his hand and said he was fine, but he was just tired from delivering orders recently, and his head was just a little dizzy. He refused to even prescribe medicine, saying, "I am not lying down, so I am not sick." In fact, this is a typical example of mistaking "not disabled" for health.
There are indeed different tendencies in the definition of health standards in the industry. One group pays more attention to chemical and imaging indicators. They believe that blood uric acid, testosterone levels, blood lipids, and prostate-specific antigen must all fall within the reference range to be considered healthy. It’s not even close to that.; There is also a group that is more functional-oriented and believes that as long as daily work, exercise, and intimate life are not affected, there is no need to worry if the indicators fluctuate slightly. In fact, both views have applicable scenarios. For example, people who do strength training all year round will have higher creatine kinase and blood creatinine than people who sit for a long time. It is easy to misdiagnose by using rigid reference values. However, if you already have symptoms such as frequent urination, urgent urination, erectile dysfunction, and persistent fatigue, and you still use the excuse "My indicators are fine" as an excuse, you are definitely dragging down your body.
Speaking of which, men’s health is actually a bit like the mobility scooter you usually drive. It doesn’t mean that the paint is not scratched and the fault light does not come on. It does not mean that the car is in good condition. The car must be in good condition when the accelerator is pressed firmly, the brakes are strong enough, and it does not shake after driving for a long time. It can be easily commuted, picked up children, and driven on the highway. Two 42-year-old men of the same age in our community are the best examples. One is a middle school teacher. He usually plays basketball with his son for half an hour after get off work. He can fall asleep in 10 minutes after touching a pillow. He gets along well with his family and can handle work at work calmly. However, his body fat rate is 1.5 percentage points higher than the general standard. Every time he has a physical examination, the doctor only asks him to drink less iced milk tea, without any additional intervention. ; The other one works in corporate sales. He seems to be rich and powerful. All the physical examination indicators are just within the reference range. However, he has insomnia until two or three o'clock every day. He drinks with a customer for three days and loses his temper with his family if he doesn't go well. Even his married life depends on drugs. Who do you think is healthier? Anyone with eyesight can see it.
If there are any general judgment tips, you don’t need to memorize any standards, just pay more attention to your physical feelings. If you have been unable to get excited for a week or two in a row, feel tired when you move even a little bit, your mood is always tense, and you are not interested in doing anything, even if all the physical examination indicators are normal, it is time to stop and adjust your work, rest and status. After all, health is for living, not for looking at test results.
