How long is sex for the best health benefits?

Good sex generally lasts no longer than 13 minutes

A study from the University of Pennsylvania recently pointed out that people's expectations and myths about long sex are actually wrong. Not including foreplay, experts believe that good sex usually lasts 13 minutes or less.

The study surveyed members of the American Association for Sex Therapy and Research, including psychologists, doctors, social workers, marriage therapists and nurses with decades of experience caring for thousands of patients. 34 experts answered what they thought was the ideal length of time for sex (excluding foreplay time). According to their opinions, 3 to 7 minutes is appropriate, 7 to 13 minutes is the ideal length of time people want, and any time longer than this is too long, and less than 3 minutes is too short.

The psychologists who conducted the study noted that people's interpretations of their own or their sexual partners' sexual prowess develop within social contexts, and unrealistic expectations can contribute to widespread disappointment and frustration. Unfortunately, today's popular culture continues to reinforce old myths about sex: long sex, big penises, and so on. Previous research has found that a large number of men and women say they expect sex to last more than 30 minutes.
