Thick, yellow and fishy leucorrhea may be a symptom of cervicitis, but it may also be related to other gynecological diseases.
Thick, yellow and fishy leucorrhea may be related to bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of normal flora in the vagina. Common symptoms include increased vaginal discharge, yellow or gray color, and fishy smell. This condition usually requires medication such as metronidazole suppositories, clindamycin phosphate vaginal gel, or tinidazole tablets. It is also recommended to keep the vulva clean and dry and avoid excessive washing of the inside of the vagina.
This condition may also be caused by trichomonas vaginitis. Trichomonal vaginitis is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection and typically manifests as a large amount of yellow-green foamy leucorrhea with an obvious odor. Commonly used drugs for treatment include metronidazole tablets, tinidazole tablets or ornidazole capsules. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment, and sexual partners also need to be treated at the same time.
Cervicitis may indeed cause abnormal vaginal discharge. Cervicitis is divided into acute and chronic. Acute cervicitis is often caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia infection and is manifested by increased purulent leucorrhea. ; Chronic cervicitis leucorrhea may be mucopurulent and accompanied by lumbosacral pain. Treatment includes antibiotics such as azithromycin dispersible tablets and doxycycline tablets. Severe cases may require physical therapy.
Similar symptoms may occur with pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease is mostly caused by ascending infection. In addition to abnormal leucorrhea, it may also be accompanied by symptoms such as lower abdominal pain and fever. Treatment usually requires ceftriaxone sodium injection combined with doxycycline tablets, and severe cases require hospitalization for intravenous medication.
In rare cases, diseases such as endometrial lesions or fallopian tube cancer may also cause changes in the characteristics of leucorrhea. These diseases are usually accompanied by other symptoms such as irregular vaginal bleeding, weight loss, etc., and need to be diagnosed through gynecological examination, ultrasound or pathological examination.
It is recommended to keep the vulva clean, choose cotton underwear and wash it frequently, and avoid using irritating lotions to rinse the vagina. Pay attention to a balanced diet and supplement with probiotics appropriately. If abnormal leucorrhea occurs, you should seek medical treatment in time, and make a clear diagnosis through routine leucorrhea, cervical scraping and other examinations to avoid delaying the condition with self-medication. During the treatment period, the entire course of medication should be completed as directed by the doctor to avoid unauthorized discontinuation of medication after symptoms are relieved.
