For the vast majority of people who have clear exercise goals, the benefits of going to the gym are indeed considerable. However, it is not suitable for everyone, and it is far from "the only choice for fitness." It must be judged based on your own needs, habits and even personality.
I have been working out for almost six years. In the first year, I practiced blindly at home following videos. I squatted twice and my knees hurt for less than half a month. I applied plasters for several days before I recovered. Later, I went to the gym with a friend's weekly card. I happened to catch up with the coach who was patrolling the field and adjusted my stance and knee angle. Only then did I realize that my knees had always moved first and then buckled in. I was lucky not to have injured my ligaments. To be honest, the fixed-track equipment in the gym is really friendly to novices. The route of exerting force is completely defined for you. As long as the movements are not too outrageous, it is difficult to cause major sports injuries. If you want to build muscle, you can gather up to 20 or 30 kilograms of dumbbells at home. The standard Olympic bar in the gym is only 20 kilograms. If you add weights, it can reach 70, 80 or even hundreds of kilograms. The condition of progressive overload is difficult to meet at home or outdoors. ; If you want to accurately shape your body, tools such as gantry, hip abductor, and Pilates table can accurately hit the upper chest, side hips, and shoulder muscles, which are small muscle groups that are difficult to stimulate when walking, running, and jumping. I have practiced at home for three months and my buttocks have not changed. I went to the gym and used fixed equipment and deadlifts, and I can see the lines in more than a month.
Of course, don’t boast that the gym is magical. It is not unreasonable to say that it is an IQ tax. I have a friend who got an annual pass worth more than 3,000 yuan last winter. So far, he has gone there three times, twice to take a shower, and once to transfer the card but it failed to be transferred. This is equivalent to changing the card for three hot water baths, which makes me feel sad even talking about it. If you have very poor self-control and no clear sports goals, applying for a card is really equivalent to giving operating funds to the gym, which is not as cost-effective as running around the park twice downstairs. There are also some coaches in small gyms who are fast-tracked in seven days. They don't even understand basic anatomy knowledge and dare to put weight on deadlifts. I have seen a little girl who was forced by the coach to lift 60 kilograms before and couldn't straighten her waist. In this case, let alone the benefits, it is good if it does not cause the root cause of the disease.
I don’t recommend going to the gym for those who are afraid of social problems. I once had a colleague who felt stiff all over as soon as she entered the gym. She felt like everyone was watching to see if her movements were not up to standard. She was so nervous when she tried to exercise on the elliptical machine that she was so nervous that she went there twice. She was directly psychologically affected. In this situation, it is really better to follow the live aerobics at home. She is comfortable and not burdened, and the effect is not much worse. To put it bluntly, the gym is actually more like a "sports aid", just like you need good paint pens for painting, and a comfortable racket for playing ball. If you can use it well, you can avoid a lot of detours and speed up a lot. If you don't use it well or don't need it, then it will be useless to you no matter how professional it is. You can't make it like others say it is useful, and there is no need to beat it to death if others say IQ tax.
