At present, the most commonly used slogans in communities, nursing homes, and medical institutions are mostly down-to-earth slogans, such as "Use your brain more and socialize more, so that your memory will not run away when you get older." "Early screening and early intervention will slow down cognitive decline by half a step."
I experienced this most when I was doing missionary work in the streets and communities last year. The first thing I posted was the professional version of "Early screening for cognitive impairment can delay the progression of the disease." Most of the elderly people coming and going left after just one glance. Some people came over and asked, "What is cognitive impairment?" Is this why I'm old and confused? ”Later, we discussed with the elderly association in the community and changed it to "Don't treat yourself as a normal old person because you forget things a lot and can't remember your way around. Come to the community for a free check-up, and you will be reassured that there is nothing wrong." In less than a week, the number of elderly people who took the initiative to receive the screening questionnaire tripled.
Of course, there are also different opinions on the scale of propaganda slogans. Some people think that words such as "dementia" and "cognitive impairment" cannot be mentioned in slogans. They are too harsh and can easily make the elderly feel labeled. Previously, a community removed all posters that read "Prevent Alzheimer's Disease" and replaced them with "Pay attention to brain health and enjoy a silver-age life." The acceptance rate of the elderly is indeed much higher.; However, some clinical doctors and nurses say that completely avoiding disease-related expressions can easily cause the elderly to regard pathological poor memory as normal aging. They will not take it seriously when symptoms do appear and delay seeking medical treatment until the middle and late stages, missing the best opportunity for intervention.
In fact, cognitive health propaganda slogans are like health tips handed to the elderly. They are too blunt and cannot be picked up by the elderly, and they are too vague and fail to serve as reminders. You have to strike the right balance between "understandable, not objectionable, and useful." A while ago, I saw that the slogan of another community was discussed with the aunties of the square dance team. It said "Dancing with your wife every day, your mind will be flexible and your waist and legs will be strong." It was posted on the tree beside the square dance field. When everyone is tired from dancing, they can look up and see it. After repeating it a few times, they will remember it. When they get home, they will urge their wives to do finger exercises and guess riddles together. The effect is much better than the professional manual we printed before.
Nowadays, many places provide corresponding propaganda slogans to family members, such as "Spend more time chatting with the elderly and keep memories longer" posted in community elevators. This can also remind young people to pay more attention to the cognitive status of the elderly at home, and to detect abnormalities early and seek medical treatment.
